High Security Safes: Common Questions
What's the difference between the grades (0 to V)?
These are EN1143-1 security grades, running from Grade 0 (around £6,000 cash / £60,000 valuables cover) up to Grade V (around £100,000 cash / £1,000,000 valuables cover). Each grade reflects independent testing against physical attack for a set time — higher grades mean more resistance and higher recommended insurance cover.
Do I need a high security safe, or will a standard security safe do?
It depends entirely on the value of what you're storing and what your insurer requires. Standard EN14450 rated safes (S1/S2) suit lower-value cash and valuables; EN1143-1 graded safes are for higher-value holdings where a determined, tooled attack is a realistic risk.
Are these safes fireproof too?
Some are, some aren't — check the fire rating listed separately on each product page. Security grade and fire rating are tested independently.
What does ECB.S Certified mean?
It confirms the safe's rating was tested and certified by the European Certification Body for Security, an independent testing authority, rather than just a manufacturer's own claim.
